How to Survive an Ice Storm While Camping

How to Survive an Ice Storm While Camping

Camping is one of my favorite things to do. However, things happen and we all need to be prepared, so I'd like to go over how to survive an ice storm while camping. This week I'm camping about 2 hours North of Dallas TX, near the Oklahoma border. It's been 3 days of a massive ice storm. Luckily, I'm camping in my Gray Wolf Camper, so I try to keep it prepared for any kind of emergency. It could have gone south really fast if I didn't have the right gear with me. Here are some tips to help you survive an ice storm while camping.

Be Prepared to Survive:

Have the right gear to survive an ice storm while camping.

Before heading out on your camping trip, make sure you have the necessary gear and supplies to weather the storm. This includes a tent with a sturdy frame, a quality sleeping bag, extra blankets, and a waterproof tarp. It's kept me warm on all my camping trips, and it's roomy enough for a real sized adult. Choose Your Site Wisely:

When setting up your tent, make sure it is in a sheltered area and not near trees or other objects that could fall during the storm. Also, avoid setting up your tent on a slope, as this can increase the risk of flooding or landslides.

Stay Warm While Camping:

To survive an ice storm while camping, you will want a warm and water resistant sleeping bag.

During an ice storm, temperatures can drop dramatically, so it is important to stay warm. Make sure you have enough warm clothing, and consider using a heat source such as a camp stove or portable heater. Top 3 Propane Heaters for Tent Camping

Protect Your Food:

A good cooler is essential to protect your food to survive an ice storm while camping.

Food can quickly become inedible during an ice storm, so it is important to protect it. Make sure your food is stored in airtight containers and kept in a dry, safe place. Having a good cooler is essential on any camping trip. It will ensure your food is protected from extreme weather conditions. Take a look at the Yeti Tundra on Amazon.

Stay Informed:

Check the forecast often if you're going to go camping.

Stay informed about the weather forecast and any warnings or alerts issued by local authorities. If conditions become dangerous, it is best to evacuate the area.

Have a Plan:

In case of an emergency, it is important to have a plan in place. Make sure you have a map of the area and a means of communication, such as a satellite phone or two-way radio.

Surviving an ice storm while camping requires preparation, planning, and common sense. By following these tips, you can stay safe and enjoy your camping trip even in adverse weather conditions. Be sure to check out our gear review page to see some of our recommended gear for your next adventure.

Paws in the Great Outdoors: A Guide to Tent Camping with Your Dog

Camping with your furry companion can be a great way to bond and explore the great outdoors together. However, tent camping with your dog can be a bit challenging, especially if you want to ensure that both you and your pet get a good night's rest. Here are some tips to help you and your dog sleep comfortably in a tent:

Choose the right size tent

Make sure to choose a tent that is big enough for you and your dog to move around comfortably. If your dog is large, you may want to consider a larger tent or a tent with a separate sleeping area for your pet. My favorite tent, and the one I use, is the Gazelle T4 Overland edition tent. This tent is fast to set up and just as fast to break down. You can view this tent on Amazon by following this link. You can see a review I made of this tent at the following link. Gazelle T4 Tent Review.

Bring a comfortable bed for your dog

A comfortable bed for your dog will ensure that they get a good night's rest. Bring a portable dog bed or a camping pad for your dog to sleep on.

Keep the tent clean

Bring extra blankets and a towel for your dog to sleep on, and make sure to keep the tent clean and free of dirt and debris. This will help to keep your dog comfortable and reduce the risk of fleas and ticks.

Keep your dog calm

If your dog is anxious or restless, it can be difficult for them to sleep. Try to keep your dog calm by providing them with plenty of exercise before bedtime and by keeping the tent dark and quiet.

Invest in a good camping lantern:

A camping lantern with a dimmer switch can be a great way to keep your dog calm while they sleep.

Keep your dog close to you

Your dog may feel more comfortable if they are close to you while they sleep. Try to keep your dog's sleeping area close to your own.

Prepare for the unexpected

Bring a leash and collar for your dog, in case you need to take them out of the tent in the middle of the night.

By following these tips, tent camping with your dog can make a comfortable and enjoyable trip. Remember that it's important to be prepared, patient and consistent with your pet, but most importantly, have fun!Regenerate response
